U15 Elite: Daytrip to Geneva

On Saturday morning, a very enthusiastic and excited U15 elite GC team boarded the train to Geneva. On arrival at the pitch, with enough time to spare to warm up and the opportunity to discuss a few tactics, the first game started against Olten Boys. As in true GC style, we needed the opening half to adjust to our new roles and Olten took full advantage of this by seizing this opportunity to score several opening goals.

In the second half of the first game we woke up. And, then came the beginning of our offensive tactical comeback - momentarily. From a short corner came the breakthrough that was well deserved. A textbook conversion goal from Lara.

After a somewhat demoralising annihilation against Olten, with an 8:1 final score, we started off against Olten girls with renewed passion, determination and many chances on both sides.
Joseph`s debut goal was exactly the perfect start to the game and was thoroughly deserved. Even though the opponents created a lot of chances, Caspar held his nerve and was formidable in goal. As a testament to his performance, the strong defensive wall that GC presented and a game where GC had dominated the half time the score was 1:0.

The second half started off balanced, with several chances from both sides and could have gone in anyone`s favour and then came an equaliser, off a short corner, from Olten. The remainder of the second half was exhilarating with everyone producing some excellent hockey. Then, very close to the closing end minutes, came a controversial second goal from Olten. It was fiercely contested by all of the team but they were unsuccessful in their protests.
At 2:1, despite all of the tremendous efforts from the team, luck was not on our side, as the final whistle blew a short corner was awarded to GC which unfortunately was unable to be converted. As we walked off the pitch, with heads held high and hearts full of pride, we knew that we had given of our very best right up until the final whistle and this is all that we can ask of ourselves. A special mention goes to Fede for his invaluable contributions that he made today. A lovely day was had by all.

Huge thanks goes to Fabio and Oliver for their accomplished coaching and endless encouragement. We also want to thank Suzy and Jean-Marc who took their time to accompany and support us on the journey.
