GC Herren 1: Impressive Win - The final quarter

Grasshopper Club Zürich - Servette HC 2 --- 5:0

Although GCZ 1. Herren’s promotion into the NLA Masters Group had been secured with a win the     previous day against Basel, the second match of the weekend against Servette Hockey Club 2 was not  undertaken lightly.

The game against SHC started slow for both teams with few clear chances for both teams on goal. GC   maintained the strong defensive structure as SHC struggled to play the ball out from defence. Apart  from scarce deflections in the circle, neither team had great chances on goal in the first half.

After the half time the GC men decided to turn up the pressure with more attacking plays and heavy pressing. However it still took until late in the 3rd quarter for it to pay off. A turnover from SHC led to an 80m counter attack finished off by Lukas Müller. Shortly before the end of the 3rd quarter, a driving ball into the circle was met with a sneaky touch from Oliver Haberthür to bring the score to 2:0. The GC Herren weren’t done yet with the game in the 4th quarter as the scoring started with Christoph Wirz from a classic penalty corner hit into the bottom of the goal. From here, the GC Herren solidified the lead with two more goals. A counter attack started by Lukas and assisted with the Australian import’s backhand to the far post for Oliver and then a wide angle spin shot from Lukas through the keeper’s legs.

That closes out the 2nd round of NLA Challenge with the GC Herren on top to be promoted into the next group.
