GC Herren 1: Hard-won Victory

Stade Lausanne - Grasshopper Club Zürich --- 0:3

Our men's first team played in Lausanne on last Sunday the last match of the third match day. The matched looked to be against an affordable team which scored no points so far and leaded the bottom of the table. The players were aware though, that this same team beat us last year in a very unorganized an awkward match and wanted to start concentrated and avoid surprises.

The match started with full control from the Grasshoppers, who made high pressure on the locals and were moving the ball with criteria and speed. Unfortunately, as it's being the norm in the last seasons, GC could get presence in the opposite area but with not real danger or without finishing them with a goal or a corner.

As time was running without scoring our men were getting nervous and trying to accelerate the match while losing control and thereby causing unnecessary mistakes. The match was turning more and more the kind we didn't want it to be, as Lausanne was intercepting passes and creating quick and vertical counterattacks which could fortunately be at the last moment intercepted by either the goal keeper or an intuitive defender. The midfield was broken and the game hectic. The Grasshoppers needed a goal to calm down the match and it finally came with a very skilly deflection from Benjamin to a hard pass from Fabian Burman.

The matched continued the same irregular but at least we were leading. With a bit of suffering and many missed occasions the game reached the fourth quarter, when the captain Roman scored a penalty corner to the bottom right side of the goalkeeper. The locals were overflowed and couldn't keep the speed of the match anymore. That was the occasion for the the young Oliver to close the match, scoring his first goal with the first team after a pass from Fabian Steiner, straight to the upper left corner of the net.

It was not the best match from the Grasshoppers, but a worked victory and very important 3 points to keep staying on the playoff positions.
