Grasshoppers bounced back from the previous weeks disappointment in the best possible way with convincing wins against Basel and Olten. These six points are a welcome boost to the GC points tally and sees them move into second play in the play-off spaces.
Grasshopper Club Zürich - Basler HC --- 4:1
Fans favorite Jasper Van Tilburg started proceedings when he broke the deadlock 5 minutes into the first half when the Flying Dutchman collected the ball in instinctive fashion turned his defender and slotted past the goalkeeper via the inside of the post. Denes Heins doubled the lead after Fabian Steiner went on a mazy run and laid it off for Heins who found the back of net. Van Tilburg scored his second in similar fashion when this time Fabio Landtwing created space down the right channel and
played the ball into Van Tilburg who duly converted.
The second half saw Basel pull a goal back when a contentious penalty corner was awarded and scored. GC have in recent weeks capitulated when the pressure was on but they stood fast and with some fine goalkeeping from Fabian Starsich kept Basel out. Denes Heins scored his second of the afternoon and GC’s fourth when he won a penalty corner and converted after a pass from his strike partner Fabian Steiner. Fabio Dornbierer and Sven Hinrich’s further enhanced their reputations as a magnificent protection for goalkeeper Fabian Starsich with some classy defending and managed to, along with the rest of the Zurich side, see out the game to secure 3 points.
HC Olten - Grasshopper Club Zürich --- 4:7
A game for the supporters with goals being scored at regular intervals by Grasshoppers. Goals coming from GC top goal-scorer Denes Heins (3), Benjamin Eddy (2) and Captain Roman Richner (2) who dictated play in his usual fashion throughout. Olten scored 4 goals of their own but were not at such times where Grasshoppers were pressured having taken an assured and near unassailable lead in the first half. Notable mentions to Jöel Plambeck and Constantin Scheuer whose driving runs from the defense brought much impetus into the GC attacks.
With one game week left; it’s all to play for.
