HC Olten - Grasshopper Club Zürich --- 7:0
The final game of the season took place on a beautiful hot day in Olten. GC stepped up to the challenge with Ron having anticipated the opposition’s tactics exactly and setting a clear game plan in place. However, despite this, Olten were fast and quick to convert the first goal.
The game saw end-to-end play with the forwards making great runs toward the goal. The midfielders demonstrated silky skills and energetically linked play between the back and forward line. The defense were put under pressure by the constant switching of the Olten forward line with Tilia making several saves to keep the score down. The combination of Wendela and Wanda worked tirelessly in defense intercepting the onslaughts and clearing balls from the D. By the end of the first half the score was 3:0 to Olten.
After a good halftime talk, GC went out fighting once more. Unfortunately, a dubious corner strike made the score 4:0. Tanja Landtwing was now in goal for her second appearance for the senior ladies and showed great potential, making impressive saves and helping to organise the defense. Olten continued putting pressure and converted 3 more goals. GC won a short corner in the final quarter and set up with passion, a fantastic strike from Noortje went cruelly just wide of the goal.
Despite the loss, as always, GC retreated to the changing room with a positive spirit to pop Prosecco and say some emotional thank-yous and goodbyes after what has been an extremely enjoyable season.
