Rotweiss Wettingen 2 - Grasshopper Club Zürich 2 --- 2:0
The tournament took place in Wettingen where the NLB ladies team faced two games at this Sunday. The goals for the first game against Wettingen were to internalize our strategy and to make goals.
We started with an equal amount of opportunities to score on both sides. After 10 minutes Wettingen made the first goal out of a well built-up attack. 5 minutes later Wettingen was awarded a short corner and made the second goal. Wettingen still got a few times into the GC circle but we defended concentrated.
In the second half of the game we were focussed on our tactical system. Constantly motivated by coach Marcel this helped us to close the spaces and made it harder for Wettingen to create opportunities. We came into Wettingens circle a few times but unfortunately we were not able to score. The additional four corners against us were successfully defended by the goalkeeper Tilia.
Even if we didn’t score against Wettingen, it was obvious that the team internalized the defense and attack tactic throughout the game. This learning and team spirit should help us in the next game.
Grasshopper Club Zürich 2 - Berner HC 2 --- 2:1
The second match of the day looked to be a sure win as 12 GC ladies lined up against 6 Bern ladies. The team set up positively, following the game plan of coach Marcel.
After a quick change and 5 minutes into her debut match day for GC Anna Sofie used her silky skills and slotted her first goal past the keeper. GC dominated most of the first half with play beginning to flow between the new teammates and confidence building to make use of the side boards. After a scuffle in defence Bern were lucky to convert a short corner and end the first half 1:1.
GC came out fighting in the second half, credit had to be given to a relentless Bern side who, without subs, continued to pressure our defence. Tilia was steadfast in goals defending several 1 on 1s and making a flying save to ensure the game stayed level. Despite being a man down, for a random green card GC forced a corner. Cath confidently interjected the ball allowing a perfect stop and Lous to sweep it cooly past the keeper. The game continued with end to end play and linking being made by GC. At 26 seconds to go Marcel called a time out to remind us to stay safe and not risk anything. And so we got the win and our first 3 points !! … and by the way, Vane was playing left, only left all the time.
