GC Damen: Narrow loss against HC Olten

The final match of the autumn outdoor season proved to be the best performance yet by the lady hoppers. The crisp fall weather and strong GC lineup had everyone focused and hungry for a win. Following a sharp warmup, GC applied constant pressure on Olten and forced many turnovers. Cat quickly showed that she was a great new addition to the GC midfield and everyone was giving their best effort to rattle the competition. An unmarked Olten attacker at the top of the circle allowed for a quick deflection goal; however, GC remained strong working as a team. At the end of the second quarter Noortje forced the first offensive penalty corner of the season, followed by two more to finish off the first half.

After a quick pep talk from Ron, the girls took the field looking to tie up the game. Lotte and Nani had many strong advances towards the goal and fought hard for every ball. At the beginning of the third quarter Olten managed to score another goal from the right side making the game 0:2.

During the last quarter of the game GC kept focused, moving the ball through traffic and up the sidelines towards the goal. Wendela and Lous provided a solid defense and made critical passes from the back allowing for the offense to advance. Newly returned Virginia showed true grit as she was taken out by an Olten defender as she carried the ball into the circle. As the whistle blew to end the game the GC team, although disappointed with the loss, was very proud of the team effort and progress they had made.

Coach Ron was happy with the performance and all are looking forward to a positive start to the indoor season.
