GC Damen 1: A Weekend with a Win and a Loss

After the great success last weekend we arrived in Wettingen very motivated and ready to defend our position and again take 6 points from the games.

Basler HC - Grasshopper Club Zürich --- 1:2
The first game was against Basel and we started with our goal to play confidently but calm. Basel put a lot of pressure on us but we defended very strongly.

With an excellent combination play between Julia and Tanja we got our first goal. We kept the pressure on and pushed for a second but Basel also defended very hard. We ended the first half 1:0 to GC.

The second half started the same as the 1st. In a bid to get an equalizing goal, Basel took off their goalie. We did the same. We absorbed a lot of pressure with them pushing on our goal and they were eventually successful through a free player high who was able to push the ball into our open goal.

Determined to win we pushed hard and and eventually found a second goal through Luntu who dribbled past some players and scored with a reverse flick. The game ended 2:1 to GC.

Grasshopper Club Zürich - Black Boys Genève --- 1:5
Having drawn against Black Boys in the 1st game we knew we could play well against them and wanted to work hard to get the 3 points.

They had played a draw against Olten so also needed the 3 points. With their skillful players in the back, middle and upfront they were able to dominate. Although Tanja did well to try to stop the ball on the line from the short corner Black Boys eventually found success. They scored another quick short corner goal and from there it felt like we were on the back foot.

Black Boys called for a time out and we decided to use the opportunity to play with more pressure by taking the goalie off.

We put pressure high on them but they defended strongly and our forwards found it difficult to score. They countered a lot with pace and managed to find another 2-3 goals. We managed to get a consolation goal through a well worked short corner by Luntu and Janina. The score ended 5:1.

As we head into the Christmas break, we're happy with how we've played in this 1st round as we're currently 2nd in the table. We're looking forward to continuing like this in the new year.

Thanks to our coaches Lukas, Marcel and Claudio.
