GC Herren 1: Indoor Season Finale

Grasshopper Club Zurich knew full-well coming into the weekend that they wouldn’t be challenging for a top four position and could at best, confirm their spot in NLA next season with a fifth-place finish. This was secured but not without the odd scare.

The Zurich club also welcomed backed their industrious captain; Roman Richner from injury for the final group games of the NLA Indoor Season who, with the rest of the squad ensured a respectable 4 points with a win and a draw.

Servette HC - Grasshopper Club Zürich --- 3:4

Grasshoppers often struggle against the individualism of Servette and for most of the game had countered it with an efficient structure and calm on and off the ball. GC goals were scored intermittently throughout with some fine finishing from Denes Heins notching a hatrick and Fabio Landtwing. With 5 minutes left on the clock and GC leading 4:1, Servette reverted to six outfield players in a bit to turn around the deficit and did so with two late goals but it was too little, too late as the game was closed out.

Grasshopper Club Zürich - HC Olten  --- 3:3

A draw was a fitting end in a tight and enthralling final game as Grasshopers and Olten slugged it out for supremacy. Olten took the lead twice but with goals from Dénes Heins and Benjamin Eddy pegging them back. Oliver Haberthür scored GC’s third having deflected a fine visionary pass from Fabian Steiner in his own half. Olten drew back level and honours were shared.

The Zurich club should have reason to be positive for the 2019/20 season with the talents of Fabio Landtwing, Fabian Steiner and Oliver Haberthür having a growing influence over the outcomes of games. Grasshoppers now move their attention to the remaining fixtures for the Feld 2018/19 season and their pursuit for a top four place.
